Future Graduation Dates
We want to ensure that your graduation or award ceremony is a special day in which we can celebrate with your families and guests. Due to COVID-19, our Award Ceremonies scheduled for Saturday 21 March 2020 and September 2020, have been postponed.
Information regarding 21 March 2020
Regretfully, due to coronavirus (COVID-19) affecting the country, the University has decided, after careful consideration, to take the decision to postpone the Award Ceremony at Augustine House on Saturday, 21 March 2020. At this stage we are unable to confirm a rescheduled date.
This difficult decision has not been taken lightly but we have a duty of care to our students, their guests and our staff due to the ongoing coronavirus issue. We regret the inconvenience but it is important to minimise the risk.
You will be eligible for either a refund of ticket(s) purchased and gown hire, or alternatively you can defer tickets and gown hire to the rescheduled date once confirmed.
We will be contacting all affected students by email with further information and next steps. Please see further FAQs below.
Information regarding September 2020
While as a University we are planning to open for September 2020, there is still considerable uncertainty about when life will return to normal and when social distancing requirements will be relaxed.
For this reason and with much regret, we have taken the difficult decision to postpone the September 2020 Graduation Ceremonies which were due to take place at Canterbury Cathedral. This is such an important occasion for you, your guests and the University that we considered it important to find an alternative date when we can celebrate your achievements together. We are very sorry for the disappointment this will cause. But the safety of our students, staff and guests remains paramount.
We have rescheduled the ceremonies to 28 and 29 January 2021 and look forward to coming together then for your special celebration.
FAQS for March 2020 Postponement
When will September 2020 graduation take place?
We are hoping to reschedule to January 2021 when we already have provisional Graduation Ceremonies proposed. This will enable the inclusion of all students successfully taking exams after the reassessment period, so student peers can graduate all together. The provisional dates are currently Thursday 28th and Friday 29th January 2021.
What date will my award ceremony be rescheduled for?
At this stage we are unable to confirm the provisional dates, but we will keep you updated via your personal email once a definite date is confirmed.
What happens next?
We will keep our graduation web pages up-to-date and providing that the January 2021 (provisional) event can go ahead, you will receive an official invitation via email during December 2020. Please ensure you let us know if your personal email address has changed, you can email the firstname.lastname@example.org
Will the event change in its format?
We are hoping that the integrity of our graduations remains the same however, we will need to continue to monitor government advice and introduce measures if required. We wish to continue to host our graduations in Canterbury and Rochester Cathedral and hold our Award Ceremonies on campus at Augustine House.
Travel and accommodation?
The University’s advice has always been to hold off booking any travel and/or accommodation until you receive your formal email invitation to your graduation. This information still applies.
If I can’t attend the rescheduled date can I defer to a later date?
Yes. If you are unable to attend the rescheduled date, you may request a deferral to the next ceremony and we will do our best to accommodate you. This is common practice. If after receiving your email invitation you can’t attend the date please contact email@example.com.
Will the guest ticket cost increase?
No. Currently graduation guest tickets cost £22 per guest and for our campus-based award ceremonies it is £12 per guest.
How will I receive my certificate and Higher Education Achievement Record (HEAR)?
Your certificate/transcript are independent of graduations/award ceremonies and are administered by the Student Records & Assessments Team. We aim to issue your certificate and HEAR as soon as possible after the Board of Examiners meeting at which the award was ratified. These are sent to your permanent address. Please email the firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any queries.
If I have reassessment does this affect my graduation date?
If students have completed their award fully the day we email official graduation invitations then you will be eligible for inclusion. The emails for the January 2021 (provisional) event will be scheduled in December 2020, therefore if your award has not been approved at the Board of Examiners by December 2020 then you will not be invited and scheduled to the next graduation date.
When will my award ceremony be rescheduled?
At this stage we are unable to confirm a rescheduled date but we will keep you updated via your personal email once a definite date is confirmed. We will do our upmost to accommodate another date in 2020.
