A volunteer is someone who chooses to use their time and skills to benefit others, without the expectation of reward or recognition.

The Volunteering Service exists to encourage students to engage with their local community doing something worthwhile, making new friends and having fun whilst gaining new skills which will remain with you for life, helping you to build a successful CV.

Whether you volunteer regularly or just get involved in one-off events, giving up your time can make a huge difference - not only to the communities you study in, but also to you as a person.

Community volunteering –  we work with the local community to secure ongoing volunteering opportunities with not-for-profit and charitable organisations, as well as one-off events which respond to real needs within the community.

Whether your interest is primarily in social issues that affect people, caring for a charity close to your heart, or if you want to gain experience in your future field of work, there will be a relevant organisation close by who would love extra help.

University and Students’ Union volunteering – you may prefer to volunteer on campus and there are plenty of opportunities available where you can make a difference particularly via the Students’ Union, Arts Extra, Peer Mentoring and the Graduation and Events Service.

Alumni Volunteering – your volunteering journey doesn’t have to end when you graduate; we have many alumni volunteers who continue to give back to the university by volunteering their time, skills and expertise.

Find an opportunity

The Volunteering Team can  help you find the volunettering opportunity you are looking for  by emailing volunteer@canterbury.ac.uk

There are regular information events throughout the year where local organisations will promote their opportunities to students.
