Learning and Teaching
Here at Canterbury Christ Church University, we have a huge level of expertise in teaching and learning. The University was founded as a teacher training college and our interest and excellence in this field is therefore based on an institutional ethic that has been over forty years in the making.
Within the degree programmes of International Relations and Politics, our staff members take pride in the use of innovative teaching strategies and take an interest in new developments in the pedagogy of political science, international relations and related fields. All our lecturers attend conferences and are research active, meaning that our ‘research informed’ teaching is of the highest standard: you can be assured that you will be taught by published experts in the field. Several of our lecturers are also research active and published on the subject of teaching and learning in politics and international relations which means that our teaching is ‘research led’, meets all the necessary benchmarks but also conforms to the highest standard of teaching excellence and applies some of the newest and most recent pedagogic developments.
We use some tried and tested teaching learning and assessment strategies: so you will experience the traditional lecture / seminar / essay / exam model. However, we also employ the use of simulations, role play, conference presentations, field trips, portfolios of work, practical political engagements, internships, study abroad opportunities, problem based learning experiences and many other techniques to ensure that out teaching is meaningful to the largest number of students and so that our students consistently maximise their own potential.
We take pride in using innovative teaching strategies to enhance our International Relations and Politics degrees. As well as traditional lectures and seminars we also incorporate Internet TV programmes, webinars, and even simulations to give you a true blended learning experience.
