I joined Christ Church in 1977 as a technician in science and professional studies, progressing to Science Administrator and health and Safety Officer until Sept. 2015, when I became Health and Safety Officer to the School of Human and Life Sciences. During this time, I qualified with the Institute of Occupational Safety (IOSH) at Certificate then Diploma level and began applying my knowledge to the growing requirements of Health and Safety in a busy science department.
My current position sees me responsible for legislative compliance for the entire school, adding Geography, Events, Leisure and Tourism and Sports Science to my duties, together with Work Placements. I write policy, guidance and training materials; carry out risk assessments on a wide range of tasks; investigate and report on accidents, incidents and near misses; and deliver or arrange training on a diversity of Health and Safety matters.
I am currently Chair of the Laboratory Liaison Group – a health and safety group; a full member of the University’s Health and Safety Group; a member of the Building Wardens, Health and Safety Representatives, and Waste Management groups.
