I am the Director of the Tourism and Events Research Hub and Senior Lecturer within the Section of Geography, Events, Leisure and Tourism. My academic interests are primarily related to destination management and marketing, UK policy making for the visitor economy, cultural tourism and destination branding. As Director of the Tourism and Events Research Hub, a significant part of my role relates to research and knowledge exchange. This involves directing the research unit, building relationships with key stakeholders and exploring opportunities for the team to collaborate in a wide range of knowledge exchange activities.

As Director of the Tourism and Events Research Hub, a significant part of my role relates to the strategic development of the research unit, building relationships with key stakeholders and exploring opportunities for the team to collaborate in a wide range of knowledge exchange activities. I am the Tourism and Events Research Hub Project Manager for the Culture Kent Research Project, which is being delivered in partnership with Visit Kent, the Destination Management Organisation for Kent and Medway. I also represent the University as a member of the Steering Group for the Kent Hospitality, Tourism and Transport Guild. As part of this role I have recently managed a project to explore the perceptions of business stakeholders in Kent about work placement opportunities for young people in the visitor economy.
Teaching and subject expertise
I currently teach on Undergraduate Programmes in Tourism Management, Tourism and Leisure Studies, Events Management and Sport and Leisure Management. My teaching responsibilities are related to the following modules:
2nd year undergraduate: Tourism and Events Policy and Development (module leader).
3rd year undergraduate: Tourism, Leisure and Events Marketing (module leader).
My key areas of expertise relate to the contribution of tourism and events to the UK visitor economy and destination marketing, image and branding.
