Profile summary

I earned my PhD in Biotechnology from University School of Biotechnology, Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, New Delhi, India. The work plan of my thesis “Transcriptome profiling and identification of genes for cold tolerance in seabuckthorn (Hippophae sp.)”, involved interdisciplinary research spanning the fields of functional genomics, plant physiology and bioinformatics. In my early research carrier, I was interested to know the molecular mechanism involved in plants to adapt harsh environmental conditions such as cold, drought and salt stress. For investigation I have selected Seabuckthorn (Hippophae rhamnoides L.), an important plant species of Indian Himalayas and well known for its immense medicinal and nutritional value. The plant has the ability to sustain growth in harsh environments of extreme temperatures, drought and salinity. Moreover, I also worked at ICAR-NRCPB, New Delhi, Inidia, in a project entitled “Genetic modification for the improvement of Biological Nitrogen Fixation in cereals”. 

I joined School of Human and Life Sciences, Canterbury Christ Church University, in February, 2017. Here I am working in Liverhulme grant as Prinrcipal Research Fellow (Syed Lab). My research on "Understanding the epigenetics of alternative splicing in Arabidopsis", will adress the following key questions:

1: How the packaging (loose or tight) of DNA impacts on the alternative splicing process in plants?

2: How DNA chemically modified (methylated) throughout the day/night cycle impacts on alternative splicing?

3: Which sequences of clock genes wrapped around the histone proteins impact on their functioning via alternative splicing?

4: Which different enzymes involved in this process are deposited along loosely or tightly wrapped DNA sequences?
