Profile summary

Dan Stretch graduated from Canterbury Christ Church University with both a BSc (Hons) and an MSc in Sport & Exercise Science. Dan is the manager of SportsLab which provides a range of professional services to athletes who perform either individually, or as part of a team. The unit also conducts performance-based research, and provides local schools and colleges the chance to experience laboratory testing and other University activities. Dan leads the Section of Sport & Exercise Sciences external consultancy work, and co-ordinates and develops the SportsLab product and service offer.

Dan has over 10 years’ experience working in laboratories and leading a team of technicians and sport science support providers. His main area of interest is laboratory based fitness testing and he has delivered services to professional runners, triathletes, cyclists and to a variety of sporting clubs including football, rugby, basketball and hockey.

Research and knowledge exchange

Dan’s main expertise in the research arena relates to facilitating the research process particularly with the application of technical solutions and the development of complex methodologies. Over the years Dan has played a supporting role in the execution of a vast array of undergraduate and postgraduate research, some of which has been multiple award winning.

Teaching and subject expertise

Dan is a senior lecturer in Sport & Exercise Physiology. During his time as a lecturer Dan’s experience of teaching includes physiology, sport psychology, and biomechanics at an undergraduate level and has also instructed diverse practical sessions in related areas. Dan is module lead for Sport, Exercise & Fitness which is a level 4 module which explores the nature of sport and exercise training for fitness through theoretical and practical experience.
