Profile summary

I have undertaken a number of roles within education during my career. The majority has been spent as a Physical Education (PE) teacher within Secondary Schools in Essex and London. I have held Head of Department positions and was Director of PE and Sport at a specialist Sports College. I have been an Assistant Headteacher and seconded to the Youth Sport Trust (YST) as an assessor of applications for 'Specialist' status. I have presented at the National Sports Colleges Conference on a number of occasions.

My next role was as an Education Consultant providing support to schools in 'Challenging Circumstances' to provide additional capacity to the Senior Leadership Teams to support school improvement. This was very varied work across London and the South East.

I then moved into Local Authority work becoming one of the PE advisors for Kent County Council (KCC). This involved the delivery of professional development sessions to primary and secondary school staff, reviews of teaching and learning, support to leaders of PE and newly qualified staff. It also involved strategic development of practice and policy, giving advice on health and safety issues. I was fortunate enough to be involved in the Kent 20in12 programme to inspire young people through the 2012 London Olympics which won a national 'Inspire Mark' award. I also sat on the group which developed the Kent School Games. This model was adopted as the basis for the National School Games.

Before joining CCCU my last role at KCC was as an Area Manager developing post 16 provision within five districts of Kent. This involved liaising with schools, colleges, other providers and industry to develop a relevant curriculum offer which leads young people to successful employment. During this role I was also the lead Officer for the development of Apprenticeships.
