Further Support

As well as our laboratory-based and field-based performance testing, we also offer a number of other opportunities to help you improve your performance.

What does it involve?

  • Athletes perform their sporting movements over a force plate positioned in the floor.
  • The force plate can then analyse the forces and moments that were applied during the movement.

Why is it important for me to have this test?

  • The data produced allows biomechanists to assess an athlete's balance, gait and technique.
  • The results may then be used to improve technique and hence performance and identify potential causes of injury.

What does it involve?

  • Advice will be given regarding the types of food and drink the athlete should be consuming to aid performance.

Why is it important for me to have this test?

  • Providing the correct fuel for your body can make the difference between first and second place in some sports.
  • Having the correct advice will give the athlete the knowledge to allow them to train harder, recover quicker and ultimately perform better.

What does it involve?

  • An in depth discussion will take place between the athlete and nutrition consultant regarding the athlete's diet in relation to their sport.
  • The consultant will assess the athlete's current diet and will go into great detail about the types of food / drink that their sport requires.
  • A 'diet plan' may also be constructed if required.

Why is it important for me to have this test?

  • The correct diet can optimise training and competitive performance, whilst improving recovery from the stresses placed upon the body.
  • If an athlete is aware that their diet is achieving this, then full attention can be given to their physical performance.

What does it involve?

  • A sports psychologist will help the athlete process and deal with any performance debilitating thoughts and feelings experienced during training or competitive situations.
  • This may include feelings of anxiety, nervousness or a lack of motivation.
  • The sports psychologist can offer coping strategies and advice to help the athlete control these feelings and fully focus on their performance.

Why is it important for me to have this test?

  • Mental barriers can seriously hinder sporting performance even in the most highly trained athlete.
  • Optimising an athlete's mental state using psychological techniques can allow them to achieve their best performances.

What does it involve?

  • Strength and conditioning involves preparing the body using functional strengthening exercises for sporting movement in training and competition.

Why is it important for me to have this test?

  • A strength and conditioning training program can allow the athlete to be in the correct physical state for peak performance.
  • This would allow them to train harder and longer, compete at a higher intensity and potentially reduce the risk of injury.

What does it involve?

  • Hitting a stationary golf ball from a driving mat into safety netting (indoors), or onto a driving range (outdoors).
  • The Flightscope® X2 will track the club and the ball using its 3D Doppler tracking radar without the need for any additional markers.

Why is it important for me to have this test?

  • The data produced allows an overview of the efficiency of your swing (your ‘smash factor’), plus other data such as your shot shape, carry yardage, and shot dispersion, to help characterise your golf shot, through a range of clubs.
  • This can be very useful for identifying areas for improvement, making comparisons between clubs when looking to purchase new equipment or change sponsor, or to select the correct ball for the type of shots you play.
  • Knowing more about the shots you play, and your consistency, with the range of clubs you are carrying in your bag can help you to make better decisions with regard to club selection and shot type when on the course.

Is this relevant for me?

  • This type of assessment is relevant to beginner golfers looking to characterise their typical golf shot, regular amateur players looking to improve their performance with particular clubs, or professionals looking for those marginal gains.

What does it involve?

  • A 30 minute or 1 hour massage that uses specific techniques and stretches designed to help alleviate muscle tension and correct soft tissue imbalances that are often caused from repetitive physical activity.
  • It is deeper and more intense than other massage forms and incorporates a combination of other techniques involving stretching, compression, deep friction, myofascial release and trigger pointing.

Why is it important for me to have this service?

  • It can speed healing and reduce discomfort during the recovery process.
  • The blend of techniques used can bring about optimum performance, help provide injury-free training and help minimise post event injuries.
  • Where minor injuries and lesions occur, due to overexertion and/or overuse, sports massage can help break them down quickly and effectively, allowing the athlete to regain optimum performance levels as quickly as possible.

Is this relevant for me?

  • People who take part in sports or physical activity can greatly benefit from sports massage treatment, irrespective of age, level of fitness or level of training.
  • It can also benefit non-sports people, such as people in physically demanding jobs where occupational and postural stress may produce similar characteristics to sports injuries.
