Sport and Exercise Psychology
Our stimulating and thought-provoking degrees are ideal for anyone interested in the connections between psychology, exercise and sporting performance.
We currently offer two programmes in this area: single-honours Psychology (Sport and Exercise), and combined honours Sport and Exercise Psychology, which can be taken together with another subject.
Psychology (Sport and Exercise)
Our Psychology (Sport and Exercise) BSc explores the psychological elements of sport and exercise in connection with the wider field of psychology. In this respect, some of the modules have a psychological focus beyond the athletic. As a result, this programme is accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS), and all of your study will be psychologically themed in some way. So if you like sports and/or exercise, and are interested in psychology, this is the ideal course for you.
Sport and Exercise Psychology
Our Sport and Exercise Psychology BSc is designed to allow you to study the psychological elements of sport and exercise in combination with another subject of your choice, such as Dance, Early Childhood Studies, Sociology or Tourism and Leisure. The modules connected to these other subjects will not be psychologically focused, and as such, this programme is not accredited by the BPS – however it does provide a more flexible programme if you would like to keep your options open.
Range of career paths
As a graduate in either Psychology (Sport and Exercise) or Sport and Exercise Psychology you will have wide range of employment options. Many of our graduates go on to work within the healthcare professions, while others work within sports coaching or teaching. Some graduates will even work towards becoming a full-time accredited sport or exercise psychologist, supporting professional athletes to achieve optimum performance. Whatever path you choose, you will be equipped with the skills and the knowledge to make a success of your chosen career, and will be valuable asset to any employer.
