Educational resources for safe sport

Dr. Dikaia Chatziefstathiou

Dr. Dikaia Chatziefstathiou is the author of the book “Olympism: I Play Safely”, published (2021) and distributed by the International Olympic Truce Centre and the National Olympic Academy of Greece. The book includes activities for primary school teachers on how to use the Olympic values for promoting safe sport in terms of mental, emotional and physical health.
Dr. Chatziefstathiou has authored one more educational book “Imagine my Stories for Peace” published (2016) by the International Olympic Truce Centre in which the Olympic values of friendship, excellence and respect are embodied from the characters of five stories.

Kirsty Burrows

Kirsty Burrows has authored the IOC Athlete Safeguarding Toolkit (2017). This toolkit aims to assist National Olympic Committees (NOCs) and International Federations (IFs) in the development of policies and procedures to safeguard athletes from harassment and abuse in sport.
Kirsty has also co-authored the IOC Mental Health in Elite Athletes Toolkit (2021). This toolkit aims to make a difference to the lives of elite athletes around the world.

Dr Philip Hurst

Dr Philip Hurst developed, delivered, and evaluated two educational interventions funded by the World Anti-Doping Agency and International Olympic Committee, which aimed to provide young athletes with a more informed decision when using substances in sport. His PhD focused on the development and evaluation of a large-scale, controlled study that examined how placebo effects can be used as vehicle to prevent drug use in young athletes.
