Project Title

Can Contextualized Interventions Impact the Resilience of Coaches and Athletes in a Schools Elite Sports Programme

Biography

After completing a degree in Sports Science and Applied Social Science at Canterbury Christchurch University, 1997. I embarked on a teaching career, in the Canterbury area and studied for two further postgraduate qualifications from Canterbury Christchurch. Gaining Qualified Teaching Status and the qualification for Special Educational Needs Coordination.

In 2016 I embarked on a MSc in Sport Science for Optimal Performance at the University of Kent, which further built on my practical understanding gained with the level 3 coaching course I completed with the British Triathlon Federation. These were both used to directly support the Triathlon Academy Director role I have within the school.

My role as Assistant Head Teacher (Mental health and Wellbeing) has created a common thread with in my academic study and research. Looking at how to support athletes and students, both physically and mentally.

With my PhD research being directly linked to supporting student athletes, I hope to be able to show, with a modern approach, student athletes can flourish both physically and mentally in an Elite Academy atmosphere.
