Project title

'Heavy metal contamination by tanneries and remediation in India’

Profile summary

I achieved my BSc in Environmental Biology (I) from Canterbury Christ Church University in 2016 and went on to study a Masters by Research in Bioscience which was completed in 2018. While completing my degrees, I also worked at the university as a science technician and an Instructor. I have now begun my PhD project, having been awarded a studentship, under the supervision of Dr Naomi Rintoul looking at tanneries and ways to remediate contamination in Tamil Nadu India.

Although precautions have begun to be put in place, contamination from tanneries is a major concern in a number of states in India, threatening the ecosystem and the local population. The Aim of this research is to find a cost-effective way of managing the polluted areas, see how sanctions have affected contamination output and increase awareness of the issue of tannery pollution to the local population.
