Project Title
Investigating viral infection in UK ornamental bulb populations.
Profile summary
I currently enjoy a challenging and varied role as a research technician within the Life Sciences section. In addition I am undertaking a part-time PhD research project to identify viruses currently infecting UK Nerine plants. Prior to joining CCCU I undertook a foundation degree in Horticulture at Duchy College, Rosewarne in Cornwall and then a final year top up to attain a BSc in Plant Science at the Eden Project in conjunction with Plymouth University.
Research and knowledge exchange
Aims of the research project include determining if the Nerine plants we have access to are infected using molecular biology techniques. Then obtain full-length sequence of viruses that are identified and finally develop a rapid test specific to the viruses found in UK Nerines and survey populations to look at extent of viral infection.
Teaching and subject expertise
Assisted with Level 6 - Plants pests and pathogens
External activities
I enjoy writing short articles for the Nerine and Amaryllid Society journal, Amaryllids.
