Our students

Our students enjoy a varied mix of learning experiences based at our Canterbury campus in the heart of the Canterbury UNESCO World Heritage Site. There is, however, so much more to being a Geography or Environmental Science student at Christ Church; from opportunities to study overseas to getting involved behind the scenes - volunteering, helping to run the GeoSoc (the student geography society) or Science Society, or simply making the most of Canterbury, the coast and the magnificent countryside of Kent.

At Canterbury Christ Church University, we believe that it’s important to work with our students on the issues that matter to them. Our student-led GeoForum committee meets regularly, giving students the chance to voice their views directly to the Geography team. Understanding what’s important to you helps us tailor the course to your needs. Being a student representative on the GeoForum is a great way to get involved behind the scenes, while enhancing your CV.

GeogSoc (the student geographical society) provides opportunities for students to meet socially and to make friends. Typically events include a social evenings to welcome new students, a Christmas Party, Pub Quizzes, and an end of year BBQ. GeoSoc offers opportunities to develop your own organisational skills by running events and an trips. Staff will help you with contacts and advice. Environmental Science students can join GeoSoc events, and are also encouraged to join the student Science Society.

Each year the Geography Programme awards two prizes. One is the ‘Geography Dissertation Prize’, which is sponsored by Dennis Maps (based in Frome, Somerset) a major UK map printer, producing more than 2 million maps and charts every year. The prize is given to the student who achieves the highest mark for their Independent Geographical Study.

The other prize - the ‘Geography Programme Prize’ – is awarded to the student who achieves an outstanding degree result and who the Programme Team also consider has made a significant contribution to geography community during their time at Christ Church.

Our Alumni

Our degrees provide students with the key skills required to be successful in a wide range of careers. Here, some of our recent alumni talk about their time at CCCU and their experiences after graduation.
