Working for an MP

I worked as a parliamentary researcher. My role involved communicating with constituents, NGO’s and charities. I organised parliamentary events for my MP, dealt with his constituent’s problems, I spoke to special advisors and to other MP’s and their staff to get a general understanding of everything that went on.

My degree helped me with the internship and the work experience also helped my studies. Obviously my British politics modules gave me a good understanding of how everything works but more than that, I had a sense of confidence that I knew about politics, which was great to have going into that environment. I also used the opportunity to get more information for my dissertation. I got some interviews with politicians with an interest in the topic whilst I was there. Also I attended about 10 select committees which happened to be on the topic so I was lucky. That helped me immensely with my dissertation research.
