I studied Sociology and Social Science at Christ Church between 2009-2012. Studying at University, and studying this course in particular, was one of the best things I have ever done. That experience, and the opportunities which followed, have changed the way I perceive the world around me. Studying Sociology at Christ Church not only allowed me to have a diverse understanding of the world around me, but has also led onto life changing experiences, like travelling, fund raising, continuing post-graduate higher education, and becoming the person I am today.

In my third year as a student I got involved, through the University, with ChildReach International – a world-wide charity for children across continents. I was part of a team who raised over £100,000 in 11 months for the charity. We then went to Africa, climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro, and travelled parts of Kenya, Tanzania, and Zanzibar. This amazing experience then led me to travel Latin America; climbing Mt. Machu Picchu in Peru, and going to Bolivia, The Amazon Basin, Chile, Lake Titicaca and many other beautiful places – with the same group of University friends which I went to Africa with.

Studying Sociology at Christ Church helped me to develop and grow in ways I never would have done without that experience. I went on to do my MSc Psychology (Conversion Dip). I then began working as a support worker for adults with a dual diagnosis of learning difficulties and mental health conditions. This job then led onto another, working as a STaR Worker for NHS Oxleas, in the Mental Health In-Reach Team of HMP Elmley. I currently continue working in the prison, and have recently been offered an Assistant Psychologist position. This position is very important to me, and makes me feel one step closer to my dream; to become a Dr. of Clinical Psychology!

I am also one of the founders of RISE Kent, which is a support group for female, adult survivors of sexual trauma. The other founder of this group is another CCCU Sociology alumnus.

While going to University alone is a life changing experience, I cannot put into words how grateful I am for the Sociology team at Christ Church. The course, its content and the team were amazing, and have not only played a significant role in the person I am today, but also the way I work and interpret the world around me. My time on the course has has led to experiences I could only dream of, and one by one I continue to turn these into realities.
