The main factor that drew me into studying Sociology at Canterbury Christ Church University was how welcoming, informative and friendly the staff were on the Open Day I attended. Unlike other Universities, which didn’t allow me to speak to the department or only gave group talks, the Sociology staff at CCCU took the time to discuss the course with me individually. Because I found it so beneficial I became a student representative and attended numerous Open Days so I could help other prospective student get as much out of it as I did.

What I loved most about studying Sociology was that the lecturers allowed you to structure your learning around subjects you were passionate about. Moreover, the staff members often had first-hand experience of researching the topics. I was able to shape my module choices and final dissertation around my interests in gender and gender equality, as well as discuss feminism and gender issues outside of lectures in meetings with staff members. This experience led me to join the International Citizen Service scheme after graduating, where I worked on a women empowerment project. I was able to use the theories and key research methods I had studied at Christ Church on my placement, and I am now an Ambassador for the scheme. In addition, I am currently undertaking an internship at a London domestic abuse charity to educate myself on other forms on gender inequality.

Studying Sociology at CCCU was the best three years of my life so far and I’m very grateful for my time there!
