Employ our Students

We encourage our students to get involved in specific work placement opportunities in real working environments during their studies.

  • 1 year placements
  • Project based placements
  • Internships - 4-6 weeks

1 year placements - delivering a comprehensive work placement support service to both employers and students. We have a growing numbers of students choosing to undertake an industrial placement, we understand that placements are crucial not only for our students to gain valuable hands-on and practical experience, but are also equally essential for many employers as they can act as a graduate pipeline for your organisation.

Internships – many of our students undertake a shorter placement as part of their degree programme, this can be for 4-6 weeks and potentially can continue if you want to carry on working with the student

How we can support you

We provide a free service tailored to suit your needs. We offer management of all student placements. This includes:

  • supporting you with drawing up your placement requirements
  • providing a targeted advertising campaign to promote your vacancy
  • collating CVs
  • hosting interviews in our dedicated Placement Hub
  • Support you whilst you have the student on placement

Benefits to you

Students on placement with your organisation can provide many tangible benefits including those outlined below.

  • Enthusiasm and energy: our students are highly motivated to impress, with enquiring minds and fresh perspective, which for your organisation means new ideas and a positive impact on your business.
  • Versatility: our students can get involved with short-term business projects or pick up on routine tasks allowing your organisation to better distribute senior staff resources in more required areas.
  • Low risk: ongoing university support ensures that you always have high levels of satisfaction – and there is no long-term financial or time commitment
  • Excellent value: you’ll receive up-to-date skills and current academic thinking. Salaries locally sit between £15,000 and £17,000 per annum.
  • Future investment: see it as a year-long interview or a pipeline for your future recruitment. Students know the business and culture when they return.

We’re more than happy to guide you through the process in more detail, answering any questions you may have while working with you to develop a placement that meets the needs of your organisation. If you’ve already decided to progress, please send us a copy of your placement job description and let us do the rest.

  • 1 year placements should last between nine and 12 months and should start between July and September annually.
  • Internships should last between 4-6 weeks – start times dependant on need
  • Students should undertake a real job with appropriate responsibility. We ask that the work is of an appropriate level for an undergraduate, relevant to their course of study and the job they’re employed to do.
  • We expect students to be allocated a work supervisor who’s responsible for their day-to-day work and general well-being. We ask that this person be available to meet up with an academic member of staff at visits to the company at least once a year.
  • Students should receive payment as they receive no other income during this period. Salaries average at approximately £15,000 to £17,000 per annum.
  • Students should be classed as employees and as such be covered by relevant insurance, etc.
  • Students are expected to work to the terms and conditions of staff in similar roles in the organisation.
  • Flexibility – the students do these projects during their second year at university as part of their work based learning module so we need to be flexibility about the timescales
  • A realistic project/brief that is appropriate for their experience and timescale base
  • Provide a contact for the student during the project for support
  • Evaluation and feedback – be available to attend the presentation that students are required to deliver at the end of their module on their project
  • Cover any expenses that may be incurred during the project such as travel.

We understand that you may not always have the time or resource to focus on a number of projects you may want to research or look into for your business. A student is a perfect resource for you to be able to do this.  We try to be flexibility to fit in with your needs and timescales.

If you’d like to find out more or have a project you’d like us to explore, please email us with the following details:

  • Company name
  • General area of your project (Marketing, finance, HR, project mgt, customer service etc)
  • Brief outline of the project.
  • Timescale for the work

You’ll benefit from our students applying their learnt knowledge and in many cases providing a function that you may not have had capacity for. You’ll receive access to fresh ideas from our highly capable students.  All our students are required to produce a presentation as part of project which gives you a tangible record of their work.
