Profile summary
My current role at Canterbury Christ Church University is Instructor in the Geography, Events, Leisure & Tourism (GELT) department. I am involved in delivering a number of modules within the department, including Introduction to Leisure Studies, Managing Tourism Organisations and Services Management for the Tourism and Leisure and Event Industries. I also act as a supervisor for final year research projects. In addition, I am registered as a PhD student within the department. The project title is ‘The Development and Promotion of Cycling in England’.
Research and knowledge exchange
The PhD project will explore a number of key areas relating to cycling policies in England. This will focus on both national and local government policies, together with the activities of key cycling stakeholder groups. This includes investigating rationales for policies aimed at developing and promoting cycling in the UK and the extent to which evidence supports such policy rationales. Furthermore, the research will investigate how far the implementation of cycle-related policies reflects stated policy objectives, together with an evaluation of how the achievement of policy ambitions can be improved.
I have lectured in further and higher education for 17 years, delivering modules on leisure, tourism, events management and business studies programmes. Whilst studying for an MA in Leisure and Tourism studies I completed a dissertation that focused on sports participation patterns within South Asian communities in the UK. In addition, I completed a BA (Hons) Business with Organisation Studies degree and the Advanced Certificate in Education (Post Compulsory) teaching qualification.
