Project title

'The Destination Management Process: the extent to which national and regional government tourism policy filters down to local Tourism policy in the process of developing local Destination Management Plans for Thanet and Canterbury.'

Profile summary

I studied Tourism and Leisure Studies and Marketing at Canterbury Christ Church University, graduating in 2014 with a 1st class honours degree. Before this I spent several years working in the travel industry as an overseas travel advisor for companies such as Kosmar, First Choice and then TUI. This was followed by work for Thanet District Council as Customer Service and Business Transformation Advisor. It was in part this work that inspired me to come to Christ Church to study Tourism and Marketing in 2010.

During my degree I was particularly interested in the way in which local authorities and destination managers develop their destination management plans, with reference to links to the marketing planning process. My PhD focuses on qualitative research methods which will entail a series of semi-structured interviews with key tourism stakeholders in the Canterbury and Thanet area. During my time as a postgraduate student I am also supporting the Geography, Events, Leisure and Tourism team at Open and Applicant Days and assist undergraduate Business students with their final year projects, as well as fulfilling various support roles within Augustine House.
