Events Management Graduate

Best thing about the course?

The best thing, I think, is how it’s so linked to the real world, and how we’re always learning about the industry. The tutors have really made it for me.

Did the course influence or change your career choices?

They do a big annual conference, and at last year’s they had a load of speakers come in. From that I managed to get loads of summer work experience and a placement. The placement was in marketing and I really enjoyed it – that’s really changed my perspective on my career choices. Throughout the course you’re constantly getting new ideas for jobs. In the second year, it’s very group work based and you run lots of events, so you can see whether you’d like to do this or that. It’s really good with helping you figure out what you want to do.

Is there any advice you'd give to students starting their studies at Christ Church on this course?

Be really proactive; use your tutors. I know people who when they do a bit of work, they’ll just submit it, not be happy with it and leave it. You’ve got to go and use those people. Events Management is a relatively new course and the small class numbers mean that we can use that to our advantage. I’m always talking to my tutors they know me well, and I would be lost without them because they’ve helped me so much. Use your tutors, and just enjoy it, like the group work. Obviously it gets stressful at times but just try and enjoy it. There will always be events across the world so it is a good option to have. Every company needs events: it may sound like it’s just wedding planning but there’s so much more. Just use your tutors and really get involved in the course. Do work experience – we get emailed quite a lot of opportunities, mainly in Kent, so it’s good to just use it and get the experience while you’re studying.
