Profile summary
Peter is Professor of Geography within the Geography, Events, Leisure and Tourism (GELT) section. He has a long standing interest in practical issues related to maps and mapping, including access maps for people with physical disabilities, maps and 'sense of place', and 'place branding/marketing'. He has recently worked with Dr Alex Kent and Mr John Hills on research related to the quality of visitor maps for coastal towns in the SE of England and France. Peter has written the entry on maps and sense of place for Volume 6 of the History of Cartography (Univ. of Chicago Press, 2015). Peter is co-convenor of the British Cartographic Society's Map Design Special Interest Group and works with a wide cross-section of the society's membership, including publishers and cartographers who produce visitor and tourist maps in the UK. Peter is also Associate Editor (and former Editor) of the Cartographic Journal.
