Profile summary

Dr Lorna Thomas is a Senior Lecturer and Programme Director for the BSc Tourism Management and BSc Tourism Studies at Canterbury Christ Church University. Her academic interests lie primarily in Cultural and Heritage Tourism, Ethics of Tourism, Dark Tourism, WW1 Battle Sites (with special interest in motivations and emotions of visiting), Tourism in the Developing World, and Sustainable Tourism. Her specialist expertise are in socio/cultural impacts of tourism, environmental and economic impacts, as well as motivations to visitations; Contemporary Tourism (which includes themes such as niche tourism, cultural tourism, crisis management, and dark tourism). She brings to the project considerable expertise conducting reviews of academic and practitioner resources, conducting qualitative interviews, in both the UK (related to stakeholder perceptions) and internationally (related to her research on dark tourism) and in developing links with the local visitor economy. Most recently she facilitated the Tourism and Events Research Hub’s training session on ‘marketing and social media for tour guides’ for 30 Blue/Green Badge Tour Guides.
