Profile summary
Dr Jane Lovell is a Programme Director for Events Management and Events Planning at Canterbury Christ Church University and Senior Lecturer in Events and Tourism and a Co-Director of CoAST (Cultural Offers at Seaside Resorts). She has a strong background in arts development including 10 years at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, managing initiatives such as the COMET (Customer Oriented Management and Event Ticketing) project, designed to underpin fundraising and audience development for the 105M development project. As Tourism Development Officer for Canterbury City Council, her destination management responsibilities included co-ordinating the tourism strategy for Canterbury District and a number of key destination benchmarking and research projects. Her experience with capital projects involved moving the Canterbury Tourist Information Centre to a key central site. Furthermore, her experience in cultural tourism includes destination interpretation, staging the 100-day outdoor urban sculpture show in Canterbury, BLOK, in partnership with English Heritage and the University of the Creative Arts and managing the British side of an Interreg-funded, £285,000 Cathédrales de Lumière linking the cathedrals of Amiens, Rouen, Canterbury and Rochester. Jane was part of the recent City of Culture 2017 steering group and is a member of the Cultural Kent working groups and Chairs Canterbury Heritage Partnership. As co-Director of COaST (Cultural Offers at Seaside Towns) Jane has organised two successful conference combining the expertise of the creative industries and academic research, investigating and evidencing the value of culture. Her research interests include a PhD thesis on heritage experiences in 15 English historic cities, including Bath and Oxford.
