Information and Knowledge Management

The Information and Knowledge Management group is a group of researchers, academics and practitioners interested in researching broad topics in the areas of SME development, business and networks, information systems, and organisational learning.

The Information and Knowledge Management group is a group of researchers, academics and practitioners interested in researching broad topics in the areas of SME development, business and networks, information systems, and organisational learning.

Our objectives

We aim to collaborate with academics and practitioners from other universities, as well as business partners, to develop joint research projects and bids. We also aim to produce a number of journal articles in collaboration with established academics operating both within and outside the University, and develop industry linkages with the goal of producing high-impact case studies.

We are currently conducting research in the following areas:

• Innovation management of SMEs in emerging economies.
• Organisational development and institutional change under market socialism.
• Business strategy and strategic management issues.
• Inter-organisational and business networks.
• Technology issues in health & social care for old people.
• Business models deriving from the digitization of information and evaluation of information systems.
• Software Metrics in collaboration with UK Software Metrics Association (UKSMA).
• Accessibility and usability engineering.
• eLearning and eAssessment.
• Knowledge Management.
• eBusiness Strategy.

Activities

We have been active in many varied activities involved with our research. These activities include:

• Research collaboration with Leeds University and Newcastle University in a study of the innovation behaviour of emerging market enterprises (EMEs).
• Collaboration with University of Essex on a research project that explores the relationship between science fiction prototypes and innovation strategy of SMEs in China.
• Research collaboration with the University of Southampton and Dalian University of Technology on a research project that focuses on a comparative study of information management efficiency between UK and China.
• Working on a joint project with the University of Calabria that investigates technology issues in health and social care for old people.
• Working papers in eAssessment, Knowledge Management and eBusiness Strategy.
• Business School lead for eLearning/Technology Enhanced Learning activities.

Other projects

Among our other projects, we also have also been working in collaboration with the United Kingdom Software Metrics Association (UKSMA), providing:

• Workshops and conferences.
• Development of metrics tools including MkII Function Point Analysis.
• Software metrics certification.

We have also been involved with the AccessOnto project – a not-for-profit project sponsored by Canterbury Christ Church University to provide accessibility resources for programmers and web designers to help meter out, specify and measure accessibility requirements.
