We are living in an age of rapid technological change where so much of what affects our lives has been engineered.

Our events are designed to unlock students’ creative potential and give an insight into studying Engineering and Computing at Canterbury Christ Church University. It also provides students with an understanding of the extensive career opportunities within this industry. Events can take place at our new multimillion-pound facility for Science, Engineering, Technology and Health, and some at your school or college.

To allow enough time for us to put everything in place for these events we ask for a minimum of 5 weeks notice from receiving the booking request to your 1st preference date of activity.

Taster sessions, talks and activities

Chemical Engineering:

The audience is introduced to the concept of surface tension in a friendly way. In this hands-on session a drop of a commercial household chemical is added to the surface of water entrapped within a corner of a floating paper boat. The water surface breaks apart as an elastic, ejecting the boat quite fast. Each boat has a different design, and it is selected by teams of participants. The session ends up as an unforgettable boat race using the tension of water molecules instead of electricity or fuels.

Taking ‘junk’ adding motors and power to make it move.

  • Stage 1: Taking the ‘junk’ and playing with adding motors to it; to experiment with making it move.
  • Stage 2: By adding pens can it be made to ‘draw’ ? Well draw squiggly lines.
  • Stage 3: By using a Crumble Controller and software can a little bit a control be added to the drawing bot. Aim is to combine physical computing and sustainability.
