Date: 11 May 2026

Timings: 10am - 2pm

Have you ever wondered how the criminal justice system works and what skills you need to work there? This sixth form conference will take the skills you have learned in the classroom and apply them to aspects of the criminal justice process. Drawing on our experience of working in the criminal justice sector, we will provide you with a day of interesting, informative and most importantly fun sessions, allowing you to link your learning at school and college to their application within the justice system.

Sessions included:

Forensic Investigation: Poor Derrek has been murdered and it is up to you to determine the evidence we should collect and how to understand how it relates to the case. Former CSI, Kevin Lawton-Barrett, will use his years of experience to guide you through the investigative process and how what we find at the crime scene can be woven into a case.

Criminal investigation: We all like to think we are good at spotting a liar, but are we lying to ourselves? Former police officer James Harris will test your knowledge of lying and the indicators that someone is trying to deceive you. These skills are vital to the criminal investigation process and in this session you will find out how to apply them and why.

Applied Criminology/ Politics and Sociology: Why do we treat certain behaviours as crime and not others? Join Barry Blackburn and Tom Sharkey as they discuss the political and social construction of crime within the UK and globally. You will get the chance to apply your knowledge to a range of real-world issues and learn how and why we have criminalised certain behaviours.
