An interdiscplinary taster day that gives students the experience of studying in the area of Childhood & Education Sciences at university.
We invite a selection number of schools to join us for a free educational event that delves into the fascinating world of how humans think and learn. This event explores the Brain and theories of learning through a variety of subjects, including Science, Sociology, Psychology and Philosophy. Your students will look at understanding the brain, enhancing their critical thinking and study techniques, and discovering the principles behind effective learning. With interactive workshops, expert talks, and engaging activities, students will leave with a deeper understanding of the human mind and tools to improve their own learning journey. The event will also give students an insight into studying at university.
Workshop 1: How the Brain Works
An interactive session designed to explore the physiology of the brain and how it works. From a range of disciplines, we will explore what this means for our thinking and development, and unpick HOW we (both as small children, and as adults) learn.
Workshop 2: Strategies for Learning
An interactive workshop that explores learning theories from multiple disciplinary perspectives. We will delve into both cognitive processes—how our brain stores and retrieves information—and environmental factors that shape our ability to learn. The workshop will highlight current, evidence-based approaches to learning, offering practical strategies backed by research. This workshop will provide valuable insights to enhance your understanding of how learning works and how to optimize it in everyday life.
This taster day is open to different cohorts, but might particularly appeal to students studying Education and Early Years, Inclusive Learning and Health, Care and Science.
