This interactive workshop uses the visual arts to explore the political issues which matter most to young people.

In this interactive 2 hour workshop with the school and college engagement team students will use the visual arts to explore the political issues which matter most to young people. This activity will take place on our main campus where students are encouraged to take part in activities, ask questions, learn new skills while meeting current university Student Ambassadors in a university setting.

Students may also have the opportunity to visit our industry level/ purpose built facilities for a range of subjects (such as professional TV studio, performance spaces, criminal justice and healthcare suites and STEM facilities) as part of an organised campus tour.

The topics covered during the day are listed below.

From Extinction Rebellion to Black Lives Matter, we are increasingly recognising the active political role young people play. Yet the political voice of young people is often not as respected as it should be. We will work together with participants to identify key political issues, and to start to think about how such issues might be represented visually and activated politically.

Looking at the most effective and efficient ways to communicate political ideas with impact; using visual and typographic forms to create visceral messages that can be seen, and that pack a punch. In particular, attention will be given to the political poster as both a means of getting across a political message, and as an art form.
