Lecturer in Adult Nursing

School of Nursing

Steph is a Lecturer in Adult Nursing.

I qualified as a nurse in 1999 and I have worked in various acute hospital settings. The majority of my career has been spent working in Adult Intensive Care and Critical Care; I have cared for a broad range of patients, but with a specialist focus on patients with traumatic injuries.

I worked as a Practice Development Nurse within the Adult Critical Care Unit at the Royal London Hospital for eight years. During this time I undertook a Post-Graduate Certificate in Academic Practice and became a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

I taught on Post-Graduate Intensive Care Courses at City University, London from 2020-21.

I have been teaching at Canterbury Christ Church University since July 2020, and this is my first substantive academic appointment. It has been a long-held aim of mine to work within an academic setting. Assisting in the development of Adult Nurses within all pathways of training is a privilege. In order to develop my abilities, I am currently studying for an MA in Education.

I am truly interested in all aspects of nursing practice and teach on several modules within the Undergraduate Nursing Programme. I particularly enjoy teaching through simulation and a case study approach.

The opportunity to be a Personal Academic Tutor means that I am able to be involved in the personal developmental journeys of a group of Undergraduate Nursing Students. This is a particularly rewarding aspect of my work.
