School of Allied and Public Health Professions

Simon Hannaford is an experienced Senior Lecturer and is the Placement Lead for Occupational Therapy.

As Placement Lead for Occupational Therapy and as a Senior Lecturer, I have experience of working with Occupational Therapists in practice and throughout their student journey. Prior to this, I worked supporting people with predominantly physical conditions (spinal cord injury, stroke and degenerative neurological conditions and Dementia) in a community setting. I have an ongoing interest in Meanings of Home and have strong links to local Homelessness organisations. I have a Masters in Occupational Science from the Hogeschool Van Amsterdam, and received a Teaching Fellowships Awards for Teaching Excellence. I am a Partner Assessor for the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), and a Yoga Teacher (British Wheel of Yoga). I draw on ideas of embodied practice throughout my work.

I have been a Senior Lecturer since 2002, and have been a Module Lead focusing on the process of assessment and how to achieve innovation in practice.

I am interested in Embodiment, and I hold a particular interest in the use of yoga both as a "Total Occupation" and as a mechanism for managing stress and anxiety. He holds an interest in Meanings of Home and particularly in the experience of Homelessness.

I work with Catching Lives in Canterbury and the RSPB, and am a Partner Assessor with the HCPC.
