Mrs Siliba Sibanda

Senior Lecturer

Siliba is a Senior Lecturer in Social Work & Deputy Director of MA Social Work.

I received my Bachelor of Social Work degree (BSW) from the University of Zimbabwe, MSc in Advanced Practice in Health & Social Care from Anglia Ruskin University in England, MA in Social Work Research from the University of Sussex in England and my Post Graduate Certificate in Academic Practice from Canterbury Christ Church University (CCCU). I am registered with Social Work England and I am a fellow of of Advance Higher Education.

At CCCU, I currently deputise the MA Social Work Course Director and I lead the introduction to Social Work Practice and the Research Mindedness in Social work modules. I also supervise both BA and MA Dissertations. I am a Personal Academic Tutor, a Placement Tutor and a fitness to practice investigator.

Prior to joining CCCU, I had worked for twenty three years in social work practice. Responsibilities included complex case management and the leadership and management of social work teams across adults and children's services, both in England and in Zimbabwe. Organisations I have worked for in England include Thurrock Council, South East Essex College of Higher & Further Education, Southend- On-Sea Borough Council. In Zimbabwe, I worked for the Child Protection Society and for the government Department of Social Welfare where my social work career started.

Currently I am a doctoral researcher with research interests in the development of a diverse and epistemically just curriculum that includes all knowledges, geared to prepare students for practice in a contemporary world of diversity and difference. I am also interested in the development of creative and diverse research methodologies.
