Senior Lecturer in Sports Therapy and Rehabilitation

I joined CCCU at the end of 2022 and was recruited to design and develop the Sports Trauma Management module and to plan a Master’s programme for Sports Rehabilitation, with a specific focus on chronic health conditions. My teaching focus is currently on Sports Trauma Management, MSK examination and assessment, and the examination of the bodies systems (cardiovascular, respiratory etc.) to manage MSK injury.

I have always had a passion for teaching, but an even bigger passion for Sports Therapy and Rehabilitation. I thoroughly enjoy the work I do as a practicing Sports Therapist and Rehabilitator, and having the opportunity to share my experiences, knowledge and passion with my students gives me a satisfaction that I know no other job would. I truly have the best of both worlds!
I am looking forward to designing and developing the Master’s programme at CCCU and in teaching our student’s about the profession of Sports Therapy and Rehabilitation to ensure they become the best Sports Rehabilitators they can be.

I am currently responsible for leading on modules at level 4 (1st year - Considerations and Adaptations in Sports Rehabilitation) and level 6 (3rd year - Sports Trauma Management). Previously, I have taught soft-tissue therapy, clinical skills and have worked as a clinical educator at the University of East London.

I completed my PhD in January 2021. My PhD investigated the use of behaviour change theories and techniques in promoting physical activity in patients with non-specific low back pain.  My main research interest is low back pain and behaviour change. My other areas of research interest are in concussion – specifically in the pathophysiology and management/rehabilitation of this injury. Outside of research, I have interests in the role of Strength and Conditioning programmes in Sports Therapy and Rehabilitation, and chronic health conditions, specifically exploring exercise prescription to aid the management of the conditions and increase health-related outcomes (such as quality of life).

I am a practicing member of BASRaT and work as a Sports Therapist and Rehabilitator, primarily in Rugby Union. I freelance for other sports when I am not running around in studs on the rugby pitch and was involved in the medical provision for athletes and the public at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
