I qualified as a nurse in 2003 and started my nursing career as a staff nurse in Accident and Emergency, developing my assessment and clinical decision-making skills to become an Emergency Nurse Practitioner. I then transferred these skills to work as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in osteoporosis and falls, assessing, diagnosing and planning care. The role also involved policy and guideline development, inpatient safety initiatives, clinical incident investigation, staff training and facilitating cultural change. In 2021, I was proud to return to practice for a brief period as a Vaccinator Clinical Supervisor to support the national Covid vaccination programme.
I hold a BSc (Hons) in Interprofessional Health and Social Care, including modules on nursing children in ambulatory care, transfer of the critically ill patient, and sexual health. I have an MSc in Global Public Health including modules on epidemiology, sustainability, and migration and culture. I have also attained additional MSc modules on clinical reporting of appendicular skeletal x-rays and strategic leadership in health and social care. I completed my Post Graduate Certificate in Academic Practice in 2019 and this teaching qualification is registered with the NMC.
My dissertation was "A Qualitative Exploration of the Factors that Influence Cervical Screening Uptake By Asexual People With a Cervix in Great Britain", using Sara Ahmed's (2006) Queer Phenomenology."
