His research activities are centred around teachers' professional development and professional learning leadership. He is particularly interested in middle leadership and its role in teachers' professional development.

Phil currently teaches on the ITE science courses. Before joining CCCU, he spent many years teaching science and physics in secondary schools.

Phil's research is focused on teachers' professional development and professional learning leadership. He is particularly interested in middle leadership: its role in the professional development of other teachers and how it can be better conceptualised.

With fellow researcher Dr Rachael Stone, Phil continues to investigate middle leadership and work with middle leaders to develop insights into how they understand their roles in teachers' professional development.
