I am the Associate Head of School with responsibility for undergraduate nursing.
I completed my PhD in 2023 entitled: Queering the Sick Room: A Queer Feminist Narrative Inquiry into the Lived Experiences of Lesbians with Cancer.
I qualified and registered as an Adult Nurse in 1995 from the Frances Harrison College of Health Care (part of the University of Surrey), with a Diploma in Nursing. Once qualified, I worked in various clinical posts within Cancer Care across Kent and Surrey. In 2003, I joined Canterbury Christ Church University as a Lecturer Practitioner in Cancer Care. In 1998, I received my BSc (Hons) in Nursing from CCCU and my Master’s Degree in Advanced Practice (Cancer Nursing) from the University of Surrey in 2004. I completed my Post Graduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in 2005.
I teach across all academic levels and I am the module leader for the post qualifying, Undergraduate and Post Graduate, Cancer Care and Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy modules. I am also the Module Leader for the Nursing and Social Justice modules within the various Adult Nursing and MSc Nursing courses.
I have worked in Higher Education for 20 years, and during that time my teaching has primarily focused on cancer care, sexuality, and social justice.
My research interests are primarily in using intersectional feminist and queer theory to explore the lived experiences of marginalised people with health care needs, and how nursing practice can better respond to these needs. I am currently undertaking research exploring the long term impact of social justice education within nursing courses.
