Martin's teaching includes the development, writing and delivery of core and optional modules for the Faculty's Foundation Year. In History, Martin teaches regularly at all levels and supervises final year dissertations on a variety of topics, but especially those involving the experience of war. As a Modern Historian Martin has written and delivered modules on both world wars, American foreign policy and the industrial revolution.

Principal Research Fellow Centre for Kent History and Heritage, School of Humanities. Currently working on Whitstable Maritime project in partnership with the Trust. Historical Adviser to National Trust Dover (Lydden Spout Battery project). Historical consultant to Chilham Research Group.
