Mr Mark Roberts

Senior Lecturer

School of Teacher Education

Course Director for Postgraduate Certificate in SEN Coordination

I have been teaching since 1992 beginning as a mainstream secondary English and Drama teacher in Lincoln. I then became a Head of Drama before moving into Special School teaching in Kent. I have worked at a senior leadership level in Special Schools and continue to be involved in working to support children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) in mainstream settings.

Since 2013 I have worked with CCCU as a partner, supporting students on ITE courses with school placements as well as lecturing and running seminars on SEN and inclusion issues. I began working full-time for the University in 2019 and have undertaken a variety of roles including Placement Tutor and Module Lead.

I am currently (2022-23) the Placement Lead for PGCE Flexible, the module lead for Researching Teaching & Learning on the PGCE full time, and the Course Director for the National SENCo Award. I am also involved in teaching Undergraduate ITE courses and giving seminars and lectures on issues relating to SEN and Inclusion.

My particular interests within the field of SEN are student voice, particularly how we listen to children with complex needs, and the impact of policy of school practice and provision.

I teach in the School of Teacher Education and have roles in Primary Teacher Education as well as being the Course Director for the National SENCo Award.

I focus upon inclusion and Special Educational Needs - though I also have a role teaching and supporting students on school placement.
