I teach practice and theory modules in audio, podcasting, radio documentary, advertising and sound art and digital media, as well as final projects across in Film, Radio and TV. I chair and supervise PHD and MA students in podcasting, radio, film, music and across the School of Creative Arts and Industries. As a sound artist and practice based researcher, I work on projects internationally and in the UK with a focus on expanded radio art and art for the environment.

I have worked in as a senior lecturer in higher education as a radio and audio specialist since 2002 and prior to that in Further Education as an Audio Course Leader specialising in audio and media. I have led radio art workshops with the public in arts venues and spaces and festivals, such as the Tate Britain, Victoria and Albert Museum, the Manchester Science Museum, Jerwood Arts, Super Normal Festival, Turner Contemporary and Campfr in the Pyrenees France. A graduate from Goldsmiths London, I have a post grad PGCE(FE) from Greenwich University, an MA with distinction in Radio and Management from Sunderland University and a practice-based PhD from University of the Arts London in Expanded Radio Art via CRISAP Creative Research in Sound Arts Practice.

My work spans art for the environment and expanded radio art, radio fostering connections between the public with radio and wireless technology in all its forms across the spectrum, pushing the boundaries of multi-disciplinary interactive sound and radio art, creating expanded radio for multi media work which has included hand building transmitters on self broadcasting ceramic, trees and books. I was awarded an Oram Award in 2021 and received its special commendation for my work to date.

Research interests : Expanded Radio, Radio Art, Podcasting, Sound Art Practice, Audio Technology, Radio History, Sound Art History, Community Radio, Pirate Radio, Internet and Digital Radio, Public Service Radio, Field Recording and Art for the Environment. I completed my own PhD at Creative Research in Sound Arts Practice, University of the Arts London the title was "Radio after Radio, Redefining Radio Art in light of new media technology through expanded practice" in 2015. My current projects Don't Listen Up and Radio Air Garden explore air pollution via expanded radio practice.

My industry links are across arts, radio and audio sector in the UK and worldwide.I am part of the advisory panel of the UK Radio Studies Network, MeCCSA-RSN for researchers of radio and podcasting. I am a member of the Radio Academy, The Association for Sound Design and Production (ASDP). MeCCSA, ECREA, A-N the UK Artist Network and Visual Arts Ireland.

I am an award-winning sound and visual artist and producer who creates installations for galleries and public spaces, from large-scale spaces and broadcasts to bespoke micro transmissions. My work has been exhibited in the UK and internationally, commissioned by leading galleries including: Tate Britain, Jerwood Arts, The Barbican, Place des Arts Montreal and have work aired on over twenty stations including the BBC Radio, ABC, RTE, Resonance FM, Sound Art Radio, London Live, Deutschlandfunk Kulture and others.

Tree Radio, a broadcasting tree commissioned for the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, was selected as a finalist for the BASCA British Composer Award 2016. Waves of Resistance was commissioned for the Aerial Sparks trail exhibiting across the Island of Innis Orr for Galway City of Culture 2020 and was nominated for an Ivors Composer Award in Sound Art in 2021.

I have twenty-five years’ experience in radio production having produced, presented and commissioned shows across sectors. As a sound artist and radio and podcast innovator, I have received national press for my work, music and art and podcasts.

As a former director at the Community Media Association, CMA, I successfully helped lobby for community radio in the UK and was a founder of award-winning London arts station Resonance FM. I set up Radio Arts in 2002 to promote radio art and expanded radio art projects and have been an advisor for Open Audio Productions for BBC Radio 3.I have been invited to give talks about my practice by a wide range of creative organisations in the UK and worldwide and am always open to requests and commissions.
