Dr Las Aiyathurai

Lecturer in Paramedic Science

School of Allied and Public Health Professions

Las is a Lecturer within Paramedic Science, Recruitment Lead for the Paramedic Science Programme, and Project Lead of Bridging the Gap in Student Support.

I am an experienced Lecturer in Paramedic Science. I have been involved in developing the course to remain forward-thinking and promote the role of the paramedic of tomorrow.

Within my role as the course Recruitment Lead, I help ensure that we keep our values-based recruitment process at the heart of every step. Currently, I am the lead within modules that cover the three years of our BSc Programme. My passion and knowledge have come from the back of over a decade of experience within Primary Care and General Practice. This not only allows me to deliver profession-specific material, but I have an active role in mentoring and supporting students as a Personal and Academic Tutor.

My specialist interest in student well-being has allowed me to develop a project to narrow the gap between student well-being services and placement support.

Over the past few years, I have worked on developing the Paramedic Science curriculum here at Canterbury Christ Church University (CCCU) which includes courses at the foundation and undergraduate levels. We are currently working with partners to deliver short courses to our students and external postgraduate healthcare professionals.

My areas of teaching interest revolve around anatomy and physiology, and leadership and management.

I hold qualifications in Bachelors of Medicine, Bachelors of Surgery, BSc (Hons) in Biomaterials, and a Postgraduate Certificate in Strategic Leadership and Education.
