Dr Lars Harald Maagero

Lars Harald Maagero is Lecturer in the School of Creative Arts and Industries. He teaches on the BA programs in Drama, Musical Theatre and Performing Arts.

Dr Maagero teaches both theoretical and practical modules on the BA programs in Drama, Musical Theatre and Performing Arts. His main teaching areas is theatre history, performance analysis and theory, performance making and directing and dramaturgy. Dr Maagero also directs the annual SCANDI musical.

Dr Maagero has taught on both practical and theoretical courses in theatre and performance in the UK and in Norway.

Dr Maagero's research interests are related to the cultural and political implications of theatrical performance. In particular, he has investigated the relation between contemporary European directors' theatre and the literary canon. He is interested in contemporary theatre and performance, theatre and ideology, theatre history, opera and musical theatre, and applied and community theatre. His monograph, The Canon in Contemporary Theatre, was published by Routledge in 2024. Dr Maagero has also published journal articles, a text book on theatre history in Norwegian, and many theatre reviews.

Lars Harald has previously worked and still regularly work as a director of theatre and opera. Directing credits include Mozart`s Don Giovanni and Puccini's La Boheme at Opera Østfold, Mozart`s Don Giovanni and Cosi fan tutte at Oslo Operafestival, Shakespeare's Richard II with Constant Lark, and Shakespeare`s A Midsummer Night`s Dream and Twelfth Night with Thesbiteatret.
