She has worked as a Research Assistant for Professor Geoffrey Stephenson at the PROMIS Recovery Centre psychology department, carrying out research into personality and addiction. After completing her MSc (Hons) in Addiction Psychology and Counselling from London South Bank University, she began work for the NHS as a Highly Specialist Alcohol Therapist within the forensic division of the local psychiatric service. During this time she carried out further study to achieve a Post Graduate Diploma in Addiction Counselling, and to become an accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. She has taught on courses for Addiction Practitioners since 2004 at the University of Kent, and has guest lectured at London South Bank University and the University of Surrey. Since 2012 she has worked as a Lecturer at Canterbury Christ Church University.

I am the module leader on:

Understanding Criminality and Criminal Behaviour and Investigative Psychology.

I teach on the Research Project Module for the clinical psychology MSc students and the Forensic and Investigative Psychology Students.

I supervise MSc dissertations on the Forensic and Investigative Psychology and the MSc Conversion Course.

Kristina Massey’s research interests lie in violence against women and girls. Her time working for the NHS with women who have experienced domestic and sexual violence gave her a special interest in this area, as well as a focus in treatment and police responses to such crimes. Her work is trauma focused and in addition to the trauma of victimisation she has studied vicarious traumatisation of professionals that work in stressful, distressing or difficult roles (such as domestic violence workers, rape councillors, the police and therapists).

She is currently part of Operation Soteria/Bluestone, a national Home Office funded study into police responses to sexual violence allegations. This multimillion pound research project has provided recommendations for policing, policy makers and the government in how to improve the treatment of women who come forward after rape or serious sexual assault.

She co-authored “Basically... Porn is Everywhere”: a Rapid Evidence Assessment of the effects that access and exposure to pornography can have on children and young people. This was a literature review funded by the Office of the Children's Commissioner.
