Mrs Kerry Holman

Senior Lecturer Early Childhood Education and Care

School of Humanities & Educational Studies

Senior Lecturer in Early Childhood based in the School of Humanities and Education

I joined the Early Childhood Studies teaching team in October 2015, from a Further Education teaching post. Prior to this, I worked in a range of early years settings, in a number of different roles. These roles included Early Years Teaching, management and mentoring within the sector to enhance and improvise practice and provision.

Currently within the university, I teach on a range of courses, across Levels 0-6 and on a variety of modules. I also worked as a link tutor for Early Years Teacher Trainees on Early Years Initial Teacher Training (EYITT) programmes and have also been a mentor development tutor for staff who support these students during their placements.

I am a fellow on the Enterprise Fellowship Programme.

I currently lead the core L6 Early Childhood Studies module called Children's Voices, Listening and Agency, and a core Foundation Year module for Education suite students called Exploring Learning and Development. In addition to this, I teach on a number of modules across level 4-6 within the Education Suite, and supervise undergraduate dissertation students.

'Currently I am undertaking a couple of projects including my doctoral research which is exploring the parallels of an early childhood notion 'slow pedagogy' within the context of HE. I am also working on a 'listening project' with colleagues from the Faculty exploring flexible working within the institution.

Most recently, I presented research from the Children's Voices, Listening and Agency module with a colleague and three of our students at a national early years conference.

I am a member of the National Executive Committee for the World Organization for Early Childhood UK branch (OMEP UK) and a qualified Girl guiding UK leader. I am also a school governor for a school on the Isle of Shippey with areas of responsibility including Early Years and Safeguarding.
