Senior Lecturer PGCE Secondary Religious Education course, Module Lead Professional Placement Module & tutor for Research and Enquiry in Education course.

Katie has been a Senior Lecturer at Canterbury Christ Church University since 2016 where she leads the PGCE Secondary in Religious Education. Beginning as a sessional lecturer in 2014, Katie has contributed to the development of many aspects of the Secondary PGCE programme over the years. She has also taught modules on the Education Studies programme and worked as a tutor for TeachFirst.

In her current role Katie is Module Lead for the Professional Placement Module and also leads an option for the Research and Enquiry in Education Module.

As an alumni of CCCU, Katie worked as a teacher and Head of Department in Secondary Schools across Kent and South-East London for 11 years.   Katie was appointed as a Senior Lecturer in 2016. 

Katie’s research interests are wide-ranging. With a background in IT, she initially began her research career exploring the opportunities presented by using online ‘talk’ with her RE classes.

Since then, Katie has been involved in research for NICER looking at the use of texts within RE (for more details of this visit https://nicer.org.uk/texts-and-teachers) and also more recently has been involved in research investigating the spiritual flourishing of toddlers (https://nicer.org.uk/toddlers-in-the-nexus).

Katie is currently working on another research project looking into ‘Decolonising Pedagogy’ in RE with a group of fellow CCCU colleagues and is excited to see where this leads.

Katie is an active member of the RE network attending regular local meetings and national conferences within this subject area. She was until recently an executive board member for the Association of University Lecturers in RE (aulre.org). Katie has served as a mentor for colleagues on the Culham St Gabriel’s Leadership Programme https://www.cstg.org.uk/activities/programmes/leadership-programme/ and is presently involved in the group leading the pilot programme for expert mentors in RE https://www.reonline.org.uk/professional-development/re-mentor-programme/ In her spare time Katie is also a Vice-Chair of Governors at a Primary school.
