Dr Kathryn Stevenson

Senior Lecturer and Academic Sessional

School of Psychology and Life Sciences and School of Psychology and Life Sciences

I joined the Salomons Institute for Applied Psychology in 2021 as a Clinical and Academic Tutor.

I  have worked at the Salomons Institute for Applied Psychology in CCCU for a year now, having worked as a clinical psychologist since qualifying in 2003.

My clinical work has always been with children and young people who are neurodivergent in presentation, working in a range of settings including CAMHS Tier 2 & 3, mainstream and specialist schools and a national autism assessment team.

I chose to come back to Salomons as a tutor to share this knowledge on the training course and to develop new avenues of research in this area.

Alongside managerial responsibilities for clinical psychology trainees, I take a lead on organising course modules in Clinical Skills, Clinical Complexity and Public Sector Organisations.  I have research interests in the area of neurodiversity and children and families and contribute to teaching in these areas.

I am an internal examiner for several course assignments, including Professional Practice Reports and Major Research Projects.  I organise teaching modules on Clinical Skills, Clinical Complexity and Public Sector Organisations, as well as contributing to teaching on neurodevelopment and neurodiversity and on children and families.  I am also a part time teaching associate for the CCCU Post Graduate Diploma in Neuropsychology.

I have a particular interest in research regarding children and families and in the area of neurodiversity.

This includes understanding the complexity of neurodevelopmental assessment and diagnosis, and how best Clinical Psychology can support the neurodiverse community.  I am currently supervising research projects in collaboration with colleagues at Great Ormond Street Hospital regarding resilience and stressors for young people with 22q11 syndrome, transition to adulthood for autistic young people, and narratives of autism assessment and identification for young people of the Global Majority.

I hold HCPC and Chartered Psychologist membership and am also a member of the GTiCP and Division of Clinical Psychology Membership within the BPS.
