I finished my BSc at Canterbury Christ Church University in Psychology with Applied Criminology and later continued enriching my knowledge within the area by pursuing MSc in Forensic Psychology at the University of Kent where I graduated in 2011. I completed my PhD examining the group processes (push and pull factors) behind street gang membership. In 2015, I came back to Canterbury Christ Church University where I am now a Senior Lecturer in Policing. I am the course director for BSc Counter terrorism and transnational crime/ Countering terrorism and extremism; MSc Policing (in partnership with the Dutch Police Academy); and MSc Policing and Security transformation for professionals in the relevant industries. I also support our ambition in CPD developments across policing and security through postgraduate and short course opportunities.
I am an active researcher. I previously worked on a large scale project exploring and assessing needs of firesetters. I also assisted in a pilot intervention program targeted at firesetters in prisons. Later, I worked on projects relating to exploring characteristics and mental health needs of incarcerated street gang members. I have further researched areas surrounding CSE, supporting vulnerable individuals in their criminal justice journey through the use of specially trained facility dogs, gang homicide, and others.
