Professor John Hammond

Professor of Interprofessional Practice & Research Supervisor

School of Allied and Public Health Professions

John is a Professor of Interprofessional Practice and is interested in research and teaching in areas of social justice.

My qualifications include an Education Doctorate, PG Cert Teaching and Learning in Higher Education, MSc Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy and a BAppSc Physiotherapy. In my clinical career I specialised in musculoskeletal physiotherapy and pain, and in my academic career I have specialised in pedagogy on reflective and professional practice, interprofessional working and issues of social justice such as gender, LGBTQIA+ and race.

I am currently Professor of Interprofessional Practice at CCCU, exploring research opportunities that investigate interprofessional learning and collaboration particularly in the transition from pre-registration to qualified practice. This role provides strategic insight for interprofessional teaching and learning practices. I am also professional lead for Physiotherapy and provide strategic advise and input for the physiotherapy curriculum and team.

My research interests also include issues of social justice; such as gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, disability and allyship.

I commenced my teaching career in 2001 and held previous roles at St George's University of London and Kingston University. These included: Physiotherapy Course Director, Head of Department, Associate Dean (Widening Participation) and Associate Dean (Education).
I moved to CCCU in November 2023 with a focus on interprofessional teaching, learning and curriculum.

Research interests & Supervison

Do you want to do a research degree? Are you interested in Medicine, Health and Social Care or related topics? Then I would be pleased to hear from you.

My research interests centre on interprofessional learning and collaboration particularly in the transition from pre-registration to qualified practice. I am interested in methodologies that help to explore what factors contribute to working collaboratively and identifying what is the impact on individuals, teams and service users.

This also links to my other research interests in relation to issues of social justice and equity and methods that might enable greater inclusion such as critical and participatory methods. My research to date has explored factors such as gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity and disability.
