Mrs Joan Lawrence

Senior Lecturer and Faculty Strategic Leads for Equity & Inclusion

School of Nursing and Faculty Of Medicine, Health And Social Care Faculty Office

Joan is a Senior Lecturer within the School of Nursing.

I have been a fellow of the Higher Education Academy since 2010 and a Senior Fellow in 2018. This has enabled me to network with academics from other universities to share experiences and to develop teaching strategies within my own programme.

The student experience is of great importance to me and I was able to develop and implement the electronic submission and marking for the IPL Midwifery pathway in 2014.

I am an external examiner at another university, which enables me to share my expertise of programme development and curriculum with others as well as engaging in knowledge exchange concerning good practice.

My main area of interest is professional development and the role of the midwife as a clinical leader. Having been a practicing midwife for 25 years I have extensive experience in all aspects of midwifery practice and I enjoy sharing this with students.

I have been a regular participant in conferences, where I have shared my work with a national audience. These have included my work on Teaching Students Professional Behaviours through Drtama Workshops, Development of Physiology in Midwifery Education and Development of student communities through Cohort Breakfasts.

In 2022 I helped set up and run a mass Covid - 19 mass vaccination centre in Kent.
