Miss Jane Milton

Senior Lecturer

School of Creative Arts & Industries

Jane is a Faculty lead for Industry partnerships and senior lecturer within the School of Creative Arts and Industries.

One aspect of Jane's faculty role is to develop and identify employer opportunities for students across Kent and the south east. She is a keen advocate of industry-connectedness as part of the curriculum.

She is also an award winning filmmaker producing and directing documentaries. Her background is in radio, film and TV journalism, following which she worked in television production winning a BAFTA and Grierson for C4’s ‘The Trust’. Other TV credits include the BBC’s ‘Children’s Hospital’ and C4’s ‘The Practice’.

Jane is keen to hear from potential industry partners from across the screen and entertainment industries and heritage, arts and culture employers for the purpose of curriculum design, research, knowledge exchange and enterprise. She is also School lead for Employability.

Teaching awards - Nomination for Outstanding Leadership in the Christ Church Recognition Awards 2021 - Golden Apple Student Union Award for teaching 2016, 2017, 2018.

Following her industry career in Film, Radio and television, Jane started teaching at the University of Kent before arriving at CCCU in 2017. She is module lead for the practice and theory documentary module in Year 2, co-lead for Professional Perspectives in Year 1, module lead for Professional Perspectives in Year 2 and leads on the Streaming Worlds module. She was the new course director for Film Production when it started in 2018 and led the team for four years.

Director/Producer, ‘Children’s Hospital’ in Birmingham for BBC 1. (1997-1999) A long running documentary series that followed families with children as they were treated for major or minor conditions.

Assistant Producer, ‘Children’s Hospital’ in USA’ for BBC 1. (1998) A one off documentary at the world leading Philadelphia Children’s Hospital in Pennsylvania.

Jane is a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. She is Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and is working towards her Senior Fellowship.Currently, she is the external examiner for BA (Hons) TV Production at Bournemouth University. Past collegiate activity has been as an industry advisor for UCA and an external academic advisor for revalidation of the Film Production degree at Winchester University.
